Wisconsin Organization of Mothers of Twins Clubs
History
The Beginning:
The incentive to form a state-wide group of mothers of twins or multiple births, surely must have come about from the participation and invitation to attend the convention of the National Organization of Mothers of Twins Clubs, Inc. that was held in Milwaukee in 1961.
The foresight of realizing the benefits that could be derived by local clubs working together as a state unit prompted the co-founders, Lee Gaspardo and Arlene Macafee to call a 9:30 a.m. organizational meeting on Saturday, October 28, 1967, at the Milwaukee Holiday Inn Central and sponsored by the Milwaukee Mothers of Twins Club, Inc. Nineteen delegates, eight alternates, representing ten of fourteen known clubs were in attendance at the organizational meeting; including: Beloit MOTC, Fox Valley MOTC, Kenosha MOTC, Milwaukee MOTC, Organization of Twin Blessed Mothers, Racine MOTC, Suburban More'N One Club, Stevens Point MOTC, Waukesha MOTC, and Wisconsin Rapids MOTC.
At this first meeting, the revisions as suggested by the local clubs of the proposed Bylaws and Standing Rules were presented to the group and after much deliberation were adopted. The name of the organization was acceptes as Wisconsin Organization of Mothers of Twins Clubs. Dues were to be 50 cents for each of the first 15 members and 25 cents per capita for remaining members with a $5.00 application fee. Each club, regardless of size, was to be represented by two (2) voting delegates.
Many thanks and credit go to Joyce Maxey: Marion, Iowa, who helped form Illinois and Iowa MOTC; to Maureen Ames, President of New Jersey Assn. of Twins' Mother Clubs; and to Bea Hockey of Michigan Organization of Mothers of Twins Clubs for assistance in the establishment of Wisconsin Organization of Mothers of Twins Clubs.
